As they set out from the Manda camp with bags of rice, potatoes, sugar and oil, nature had different plans for them. The elements unleashed their fury, subjecting the boat to rough seas and gale-force winds. The vessel succumbed to the relentless onslaught by waves.

Witnessing the desperate struggle, local fishermen rushed to the scene, where the boat had capsized. The fishermen rescued the army officers but the food items they were transporting could not be salvaged.
